Re: Consuming Web Services on Mobile Devices

I headed up a team that has recently completed an order fullfilment system for an NI based bio fuel company. The system makes extensive use of WEB services to communicate between the servers at head office and the handheld devices that the drivers carry.

The mobile devices range from full XP Tablet PCs with GPRS data cards to windows mobile 6 powered phones.

The main issue we had was that of connectivity in the more rural areas. We tried MSMQ to deal with this issue, but found that it was really to heavy and complex for our needs, so we ended up writting our own cut down message queueing facility.

We make use of some 3rd party WEB services to enable GPS data to be used to locate some of the more remote areas in ROI, thus enabling route planning.

I look forward to the next evening.  Gary Henderson
